A New York Times/CBS News poll released Monday night shows the possible political perils of President Obama's recent announcement that he supports same-sex marriage.

Most of those polled say the president's position will not impact how they vote. But among those who say it will influence their choice, 26 percent said they are less likely to vote for Obama as a result, while 16 percent say they are more likely to.

And in what is expected to be a tight race, "even a small shift in swing states could be costly," says the Times.

Also troubling for the president is that a majority of voters suspect that his decision was politically motivated.

Sixty-seven percent said they thought Obama's announcement was made "mostly for political reasons," while 24 percent said it was "mostly because he thinks it is right."

In another potentially damaging sign, 70 percent of Independents attribute the president's move to politics, along with nearly half of Democrats.

Overall, Romney now has a three-point edge over Obama — a lead that is within the poll's margin of error — despite improving views of the economy. The Times/CBS poll had the race dead even a month ago. Romney now leads Obama among Independents, and has a 1-point advantage (again within the margin of error) among women.

The economy remains by far the most important issue to voters, with 62 percent naming it their top concern, followed by the budget deficit at 11 percent and health care at 9 percent. Just 7 percent pick same-sex marriage as the most important issue in the election.

The controversial issue also carries risks for Romney. A "well-known, openly gay" Romney supporter withdrew his backing for the former Massachusetts governor on Monday, citing his stance on same-sex marriage.

"You have chosen to be on the wrong side of history and I do not support your run for president any longer," wrote Bill White, the chairman and CEO of a New York-based consulting firm, in a letter obtained by CNN.

I would be willing to bet that more than fifty percent of the people involved in racing believe that foul play has a major hand in the outcome of races at all levels. I remember a few years ago, when one promoter’s son was competing in a support division at Langley Speedway. I think that today most folks agree that this promoter was good for the track. While at the time his name was Mud to his son’s competitors. A race director was fired shortly after a disqualification of the promoter’s son. At that time everyone was sure the fix was in. Was that exactly the case? Probably not, did the promoter exhibit a poor sense of timing? Absolutely. In the long run history has shown him to be a good dad and promoter, however that one oversight back then added to the long list of conspiracy theories rolling around in racers bellies.

After years of Saturday night racing drama, my son was old enough to drive a Kid Kart at the Hampton Roads Kart Club (HRKC @ Langley Speedway). All parts “as cast”

Keep in mind that “as cast” is part of the entirety of the carburetor rule which is a cast part, unlike the billet restrictor.

That’s it, no diagram, no manufacturer, and no part number.

Like any racer, I looked at it and thought, “That is a crappy design.” Like any racer, I design my own and had it made within the rules.

Turns out that my little redesign produces enough to help a worn out five year old engine keep up with a new engine with all the latest tricks.

One of the competitors in my son’s division is the son of the club vice president, David Overstreet. Last year at the end of the season, I witnessed him giving the single finger salute to the director’s tower after his child missed practice, because he was late getting to the grid. It was not the first time he was late, and he claimed that his club duties were keeping him from being punctual, however, he seems to do more wrenching on his two sons karts rather than club duties on Sunday.

At the first race, I carried my pill to David and the tech director and asked them to inspect it. I had nothing to hide. I was within the rules. I just wanted to make sure that it was the correct size. I didn’t care, if he copied us. He made a few negative comments, and I replied “Show me in the rule book”. The tech director said that it was based on a “go or no go gauge and that’s it.”

The winner of the first race was disqualified for not having his restrictor installed. It was obvious during the race. As the checkered flag fell, David stormed off, yelling that we were checking pills, and informed the tech director that this is what he was checking. I didn’t care for that. Nor did I care for the fact that they pulled all the pills instead of just the top three. My son finished fourth. My restrictor passed that day and I thought that was the end of it.

That week David called my sons crew chief, Mark. The restrictor came up, and Mark told David that he thought that I had found a loophole in the rules and exploited it. If they didn’t like the pill, they needed to amend the rulebook.

At the next race my son had a great day. He finished second and had the fastest lap in the heat race. He has come a long way. During the race a parent and friend approached me to tell me about the conversation he had overheard after qualifying.

<span style="" 45="" helvetica="" light="" ;="">

<span style="font-size: 10pt;" arial="" ,="" sans-serif="" ;="">He said that he had been at David’s trailer and witnessed him discussing restrictors with “some guy.” The parent then asked me, if they have a different tech guy.

Surfer rides 78-foot wave to world record

No video, not even this one, could do justice to the adrenaline rush that must come from being towed by a jet-ski into a colossally heavy 78-foot wave that looks like it could snap a surfer like a twig at any second.

This week, as if he needed it, pro-surfer Garrett McNamara got official confirmation that his superhuman feat was indeed, well, superhuman. By about a foot. The studious experts at the Guinness World Records have reviewed the video of McNamara’s wild ride on a wave he caught in November at Nazaré, Portugal last year and have officially declared it the largest wave ever ridden — beating “a record set by Mike Parsons at Cortes Bank in southern California, in 2008,” who was towed in to a measly 77-footer.

Even President Obama‘s Former Doctor Thinks He Lacks ’Humanity’

When President Obama was first elected back in 2008, many observers hailed him as being a brilliant communicator who would erase all the tropes of Bush-era communication. Where Bush was inarticulate and stumbled over words like “nuclear,” Obama was crisp and clear with everything he said. Where Bush’s engagement with certain issues appeared to some to be fumbling and awkward, Obama would be a bright light of intelligence. And where Bush appeared to be an unquestionably warm person, Obama would be…well, a bit of a cold fish.

That last part has caused the President problems. In fact, over the course of the Obama Presidency, more than a few people have remarked that the President’s emotional engagement with issues is rather difficult to gauge. At times (like the 2010) BP oil spill, he has seemed to fumble awkwardly for some attempt at indignation or emotion, and his speeches have always come off as more than a little academic or pedantic. This has caused many people to wonder whether the President has poor handlers, or just doesn’t know how to talk to people.

New information revealed by President Obama’s own physician in the new book “Amateur” suggests that it’s the latter more than the former. Human Events includes the relevant excerpts, which depict the President as a cerebral, hyper-intellectualized man who is out of touch with his own emotions almost as much as he’s out of touch with the emotions of others:

In a revealing new book, The Amateur, author Edward Klein interviews President Barack Obama’s physician, Dr. David Scheiner, MD, who blasts the president’s health care plan and says that President Obama has an “academic detachment” that he could never break through.
MORE
