'Thank you for all of the incredible Saturdays': Players and viewers pay tribute to the voice of college football, Keith Jackson, after his death aged 89

Voice of college football Keith Jackson dies aged 89

Keith Jackson, who was widely regarded as the voice of college football by several generations, died late Friday night. He was 89. Jackson covered many sports, but he was best known for college football. His signature phrases like 'Whoa, Nelly!' gave his game calls a familiar feel. Tributes poured in for the sportscaster from viewers and players. Houston Texans' JJ Watt‏ tweeted (bottom inset): 'THE voice of college football and one of the most iconic voices of all time... Thank you for all of the incredible Saturday's.' He is pictured right in 2014 and, left, during a broadcast in 1999. He is pictured inset with a trophy awarded to ABC Television in 1962 for its first ever coverage of a NASCAR Cup race.
