Nobody can get all the nutrients they need from food alone.  Many of the foods you buy have up to 70% less nutrients than declared, as vitamins (not minerals) break down when food age.

I don't take any.  Get your vitamins by eating right.

Billy, one of the best articles I have seen in years! Thanks. I grew up on a small farm in Ct. during the 60's where the old people who ran it used cow and chicken manure, we would plow it deep (yes plow - today's modern farmer never plows anymore, they just poison and plant).  We hilled our corn (4 seeds together six inches apart) which no commercial corn planter can do (they plant 1 seed 1 inch apart). Hilling corn meant you had to use a gadget we called an "idiot stick and goosestep it.

You would walk and jamb the bottom into the ground, push forward plant the seed, and then step on the hole to fill it up.  Do that all day in a 5 acre field and you will know the work, but corn planted this way grows better because the 4 or 5 plants together, shade themselves providing an outstanding crop, which is also resistant to drought because the corn shades the ground from the sun.

We used little fertilizer and almost no weed or insect killers! Had the best corn in all of the Housatonic River Valley. People drove hundreds of miles to buy it.

Yes, our advanced world has lead to a decline in our health.  We need progress yes, but we also need to follow God given advice on what we should eat and do, as well as God given common sense - a commodity we lack so much today.

Why do we take supplements?

For the answer to this question we have to go back in time. We are generally raised in a family that was raised in a family that lacked sufficient information to eat properly.

Upon growing up, in my formative years in the 40s and 50s, not knowing squat about the proper way to eat, the diet I was faced with was bacon and eggs or Cheerio's for breakfast and two squares a day of meat and potatoes, except for Fridays, which we usually ate dairy products. I'm sure there are many of you that have a similar history.

Because of this and because of my parents being indoctrinated with the belief that vaccinations were "the cure for all", all kinds of adverse health problems plagued me most of my life.
