Our medical system already does cover illegal aliens.

That's why women come across the Mexican border to birth their babies (for free!) in America... not only do they get the medical care they need for free, but then their child is a natural citizen of the US and then they get free care.

Patterico Busts Houston Grad Student/Obama Delegate Posing As Doctor

Doctor

SheilaJacksonLeeAndDrMayerHug0809

Topside Update, 2:15 p.m.: Imagine that — Roxana Mayer was also an Organizing For America “host” during the Texas primary last year.

______________________

Anyone visiting here even semi-regularly knows that the establishment media consistently fails to determine the legitimacy of people who “say the right things.” Further, when someone else, often a blogger, digs and finds the truth, the reporters and publications involved may sometimes grudgingly acknowledge it, but even then usually incompletely; and more often than not, they won’t give credit where due.

This all-too-typical scenario has played out in the past two days in the case of a certain Roxana Mayer. In two posts (here and here), LA-area blogger Patterico, best known for his relentless skewering of the target-rich environment known as the Los Angeles Times, exposed Ms. Mayer, who claimed to be a doctor when she spoke at a town hall meeting held by Houston Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (and who later hugged her, as seen at the top right), as a leftist fraud.

As Patterico noted in the title of his second post, Mayer’s mantra ought to be “I’m Not a Doctor But I Play One at Town Hall Meetings.” Patterico also showed that Mayer was also a Texas Obama delegate at last year’s Democratic Convention.

At first, the Houston Chronicle took Mayer’s word that she is a doctor, failed to investigate her bona fides, and reported the following:

Some attendees at the meeting spoke in favor of the plan, go (sic — going?) so far as to want a system where the government had complete control.

One supporter, Dr. Roxana Mayer, a physician who does not live in Jackson Lee’s district, praised the reform plan for overhauling a broken system.

“I don’t know what there is in the bill that creates such panic,” she said.

Suspicious, Patterico began digging, finding the following in short order:

  • “The AMA Doctor Finder doesn’t list any physician named Roxana Mayer.”
  • “Nor does the Texas Medical Association.”
  • “Linked In lists a Roxana Mayer — who, according to LinkedIn, is slated to graduate from the University of Houston with a Masters in Social Work in 2010.”
  • “However, the University of Houston lists a student by the name of Roxana Mercedes Mayer.”

So Patterico went to the source, e-mailing the LinkedIn Ms. Mayer. Hilarity ensued. By the time the exchange ended, “poor” Ms. Mayer was in full moonbat mode:

(Patterico)

1) Are you the person who attended Jackson Lee’s town hall meeting?

2) Are you a doctor?

3) If not, why did you claim to be one?

4) Were you a Texas delegate for Obama?

5) Why did you go to the town hall meeting?

6) Who encouraged you to go?

7) Did Sheila Jackson Lee’s husband have anything to do with your going?

(Mayer)

I suspect you don’t need me to answer the first four…but I’ll say for what it’s worth, I went to get a question answered for myself and two other people close to me who are doctors. Too bad she didn’t answer it. I also went to lend support to the reform effort. It’s easier to be against something especially since anger is such a great motivator.

Also, I have never met the Congresslady or her husband–it’s a big school. I do think this is all very funny because I just assume that if my going had been part of a conspiracy, it would have been more seemlessly executed.

While I’m sure I lack your creativity and passion, I have possessed some spontaneity from time to time.

(Patterico)

If I understand what’s going on here, you’re not a doctor, but you play one at town hall meetings. Is that about it?

(Mayer)

Do you mean play a doctor like you play a journalist? Then the answer is no. But who knows, that was only my first town hall meeting–even though I was a delegate. If I go to another one, which I seriously doubt because my husband is already extremely annoyed, then maybe I’ll play a plumber.

After Patterico did the dirty work, the Chronicle’s Cynthia Horswell added the following four paragraphs to the story this morning, while giving Patterico no credit:

In an e-mail to the Chronicle on Thursday morning, Mayer confirmed she is not a licensed physician.

“I have been advised to refrain from making any further statements,” she said.

In the initial story about the event, the Chronicle reported that she was a doctor based on her claim at the meeting.

Today, Jackson Lee denied knowing Mayer and said she was not planted as a friendly voice in the crowd.

Horswell’s story, time-stamped at of 10:46 a.m. CT as of the time of this post (saved here at my host for future reference) has the same URL to which Patterico linked, meaning that Horswell’s current renditon has effectively flushed all previous versions down the Chron’s memory hole.

Horswell still hasn’t told readers that Mayer was an Obama delegate. Patterico commenter ”mike in houston” reports direct e-mail evidence from Horswell that the Chron reporter has known this from the very beginning of this sordid episode and has chosen not to disclose. Mayer’s status as a delegate, along with additional “coincidences” reported at LoneStarTimes.com, would tend to severely if not fatally dent the credibility of Jackson Lee’s claim not to know her — even beyond the hug picture with Mayer and Lee the Chron has already published.

The caption to that picture is currently on at least its third rendition, currently reading “Sheila Jackson Lee hugs Roxana Mayer at her town hall meeting at Peavy Neighborhood Center. Mayer identified herself as a physician who does not live in Jackson Lee’s district. However, her name does not appear in the database maintained by the Texas Medical Board, which licenses all doctors in Texas.”

Two previous renditions captured by Patterico read as follows:

  • “Sheila Jackson Lee hugs Dr. Roxana Mayer, a pediatric primary care physician, at her town hall meeting at Peavy Neighborhood Center.”
  • “Sheila Jackson Lee hugs Roxana Mayer at her town hall meeting at Peavy Neighborhood Center.”

Understatement of the week by Patterico: “Not the greatest vetting by the Chronicle.” Not the most honest either. And sadly, also not atypical.

Another story showing what lynne posted

Charlie Butts - OneNewsNow - 7/16/2009 6:00:00 AM

abortion forcepsIf passed, two healthcare reform bills could mean more abortions at taxpayers' expense.

The two primary measures -- the Kennedy bill and the House Democratic leadership bill -- contain provisions that would represent the greatest expansion of abortion since the Supreme Court legalized it in 1973, according to Douglas Johnson of the National Right to Life Committee.

"These two bills contain multiple provisions that would result in federally mandated insurance coverage of abortion on demand, result in massive federal subsidies for abortion, result even in mandated creation of many new abortion clinics across the country," he explains.

Johnson adds the bills would nullify at least some state limitations on abortion. He concludes passage would result in an increase in abortions, but recalls the Obama administration promised to take steps to reduce them.

Douglas Johnson (NRLC)"And it's quite true that the majority of Americans do not want the government to be promoting abortion as a method of birth control -- but that is what is imbedded in these bills," Johnson notes.

According to Johnson, the pro-abortion movement hopes to smuggle the policies into law by using healthcare as a vehicle -- and there is a grave danger they will succeed, he laments, unless the public urges their elected representatives to vote against the measures.

On a party-line vote Wednesday, the Senate's Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee passed the $600 billion Kennedy bill. Democratic lawmakers in both houses of Congress are pushing for debate and passage of the bills before the August recess.

VATICAN CITY (AFP) — US President Barack Obama on Friday promised to try to reduce abortions in his country during his first meeting with Pope Benedict XVI, while also discussing Middle East peace efforts.

Visiting the pope after this week's G8 summit in Italy, the two touched on an issue that deeply divides the US public and has set pro-abortion rights Democrats like the president at odds with Vatican policy.

"The pontiff told me that President Obama affirmed his personal commitment to try to reduce the number of abortions in the United States," Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi told reporters.

Wow, Bradd, finally we agree on something.

Yes, the healthcare business all around gouge. I know that. I also worked in healthcare. And, I also know that any time you go into the hospital, you need to go over everything you are being charged, and don't let them hand you a misc. bill for anything. Make them accountable.

I stayed in the hospital for 10 days and they charged me for monitoring services that I wasn't getting. They also were able to charge an additional $650/DAY extra for my room (on top of the monitoring costs) just because I was supposedly getting monitored. They also added daily meds that I refused, because I brought my own. My original bill for that stay was over $25000, but when I went over it inch by inch, I was able to knock the bill in half.

I agree. There does need to be some sort of caps... but not the way it's about to be done.

Idiots. (almost) Every one of 'em.

Your proposal does nothing to fix the SKYROCKETING cost. My daughter was monitored in the NICU for 7 hours. Those 7 hours cost over 10,000 dollars.

I'm sorry but that's ridiculous

While I am sorry your daughter was in NICU for 7 hours at the tune of $10000 (and I pray she is doing well now)... things will change with this new healthcare plan of his. And if you notice, I did not come up with the proposal, bradd... I just think that they need to see things from the 'poorman's perspective' because they just might get it right if they listened us for a change!!!!

I am beginning to wonder why you tag me all of the time.

Every six weeks I get an infusion that costs $17,000 a pop. Every six weeks! I will guarantee you that with this new healthcare plan, I will only get it IF the govt thinks I really need it. And I wont be the only one wondering if we will get the medicines and treatments we need to survive. That will be how they curb the high costs. They will justify denying us for some reason or another. Like Speedy said, you are lucky she got to be monitored... because if it were up to Obama, if he can allow a botched aborted baby to survive without care until it dies, he wouldn't have a problem allowing your daughter to be in the same boat.

What they need to do is revamp the insurance policies in a way as to curb costs. For instance, find all the illegals on medicaid and get their butts back to their own land. Find all the frauds using the system to get treatments and drugs and boot them off or make them pay out of pocket for awhile.

Also, I know for a fact that the hospital and doctors overcharge the insurance companies so they get what their costs are plus a little extra for profit. This is because if the insurance people get a bill for $1000, they only 'allow' $500. But it cost the doctor $350 for the procedure, so they only 'make' $150 over the cost. So the doc has to bill $1000 in order to get their money back and then some. There should be a cap on all procedures...

BUT I certainly do NOT want the govt to tell my doctor what I need to remain healthy. It's bad enough the insurance dictates that already!

I'm sure you need your infusion every 6 weeks. But I will reiterate again, the cost is ridiculous.

We don't allow any other entity to price gouge. Not gas stations, electriticy, no one yet we allow drug companies, hospitals, and doctors to do it.  I work in healthcare and I will simply say you are completely wrong if you think what these people charge is fair and their cost. Trying to make profit and gouging are two different things

There are numerous reports which show we have one of the highest costs per patient yet are life expectancy is not higher.

I do agree, we should not allow anyone who is not a citizen to have Medicaid or Medicare and should get rid of those who commit fraud.

And if you're an old geezer...

Quote:

Obama Wants to Let Those Pesky Geezers Die
By Matthew Vadum
June 25, 2009

In a rare moment of candor, President Obama explained to an audience how government-run healthcare would work in America.

According to the Los Angeles Times:

President Obama suggested at a town hall event Wednesday night that one way to shave medical costs is to stop expensive and ultimately futile procedures performed on people who are about to die and don't stand to gain from the extra care.

In a nationally televised event at the White House, Obama said families need better information so they don't unthinkingly approve "additional tests or additional drugs that the evidence shows is not necessarily going to improve care."

He added: "Maybe you're better off not having the surgery, but taking the painkiller."

Obama said he has personal familiarity with such a dilemma. His grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, was diagnosed with terminal cancer and given less than nine months to live, he said.

She fell and broke her hip, "and the question was, does she get hip replacement surgery, even though she was fragile enough they were not sure how long she would last?" [...]
So, old people: screw you. In the future Uncle Sam will put you on an ice floe and let you float away to your heavenly reward. It gives new meaning to the Latin phrase "Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori." (In English, How sweet and glorious it is to die for one's country.)

Medical decisions should be made by patients, their families, and their doctors, not by government bureaucrats, but that's ObamaCare for you.

Michelle Malkin - Syndicated Columnist - 6/19/2009 7:20:00 AM

Michelle MalkinThe White House, Democrats and MoveOn liberals are spreading healthcare sob stories to sell a government takeover. But there's one healthcare policy nightmare you won't hear the Obamas hyping. It's a tale of poor minority patient-dumping in Chicago -- with first lady Michelle Obama's fingerprints all over it.

Both Republican Sen. Charles Grassley of Iowa and Democratic Rep. Bobby Rush of Illinois have raised red flags about the outsourcing program run by the University of Chicago Medical Center. The hospital has nonprofit status and receives lucrative tax breaks in exchange for providing charity care.

Yet, in fiscal year 2007, when Mrs. Obama was employed there, it spent a measly $10 million on charity care for the poor -- 1.3 percent of its total hospital expenses, according to an analysis performed for The Washington Post by the nonpartisan Center for Tax and Budget Accountability. The figure is below the 2.1 percent average for nonprofit hospitals in surrounding Cook County.

Rep. Rush called for a House investigation last week in response to months of patient-dumping complaints, noting: "Congress has a duty to expend its power to mitigate and prevent this despicable practice from continuing in centers that receive federal funds."

Don't expect the president to support a probe. While a top executive at the hospital, Mrs. Obama helped engineer the plan to offload low-income patients with non-urgent health needs. Under the Orwellian banner of an "Urban Health Initiative," Mrs. Obama sold the scheme to outsource low-income care to other facilities as a way to "dramatically improve healthcare for thousands of South Side residents."

In truth, it was old-fashioned cost-cutting and favor-trading repackaged as minority aid. Clearing out the poor freed up room for insured (i.e., more lucrative) patients. If a Republican had proposed the very same program and recruited black civic leaders to front it, Michelle Obama and her grievance-mongering friends would be screaming "RAAAAAAAAACISM!" at the top of their lungs.

Joe Stephens of The Washington Post wrote, "To ensure community support, Michelle Obama and others in late 2006 recommended that the hospital hire the firm of David Axelrod, who a few months later became the chief strategist for Barack Obama's presidential campaign. Axelrod's firm (ASK Public Strategies) recommended an aggressive promotional effort modeled on a political campaign -- appoint a campaign manager, conduct focus groups, target messages to specific constituencies, then recruit religious leaders and other third-party 'validators.' They, in turn, would write and submit opinion pieces to Chicago publications."

Some healthcare experts saw through Mrs. Obama and PR man Axelrod -- yes, the same Axelrod who is now President Obama's senior adviser. But the University of Chicago Medical Center hired ASK Public Strategies to promote Mrs. Obama's initiative. Axelrod had the blessing of Chicago political guru Valerie Jarrett -- now a White House senior adviser.

Axelrod's great contribution: re-branding! His firm recommended renaming the initiative after "internal and external respondents expressed the opinion that the word 'urban' is code for 'black' or 'black and poor.' ...Based on the research, consideration should be given to re-branding the initiative." Axelrod and the Obama campaign refused to disclose how much his firm received for its genius re-branding services.

In February 2009, outrage in the Obamas' community exploded upon learning that a young boy covered by Medicaid had been turned away from the University of Chicago Medical Center. Dontae Adams' mother, Angela, had sought emergency treatment for him after a pit bull tore off his upper lip. Mrs. Obama's hospital gave the boy a tetanus shot, antibiotics and Tylenol, and shoved him out the door. The mother and son took an hour-long bus ride to another hospital for surgery.

I'll guarantee you this: You'll never see the Adams family featured at an Obama policy summit or seated next to the first lady at a joint session of Congress to illustrate the failures of the healthcare system.

Following the Adams incident, the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) blasted Mrs. Obama and Axelrod's grand plan. The group released a statement expressing "grave concerns that the University of Chicago's policy toward emergency patients is dangerously close to 'patient dumping,' a practice made illegal by the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA)" -- signed by President Reagan, by the way -- "and reflected an effort to 'cherry pick' wealthy patients over poor."

Rewarding political cronies at the expense of the poor while posing as guardians of the downtrodden? Welcome to Obamacare.
