You can only start the chemical reaction that forms vitamin d when UVB interacts with 7-dehydrocholesterol in the skin. As cloud, glass, the atmosphere and smog absorb UVB you cannot make vitamin d by sun exposure any time except at midday and then only in the summer. So you cannot make vitamin d through cloud. In most of the USA, north of South Carolina you will not make vitamin d from sun exposure for another 6 months.

Researchers from the VU University, Amsterdam, found obese people who carry excess fat around their midriffs have lower vitamin D levels. Liver fat is associated with low vitamin D in obese men.

I was found to be deficient in vitamin D and B12 after blood tests last year, I am 49. I take those vitamins under the supervision of my doctor and got tested every 3 months for a year and now every 6 months. You should never take vitamins unless they are recommended by your medical provider and you are getting your levels tested.
