I'm going to end this discussion (at least my part) as I see it beginning to repeat points already made.  A couple of statements and questions and then I won't make any further comments.

First, I applaud you for standing up for your convicions and trying to live a Christian life.

Second, I believe some of the scriptures are mis-applied, but I'm not going to get into that because it will lead to religious differences and will or could lead to misunderstandings with feeling getting hurt. I like you was raised in a Christian home and am a firm believer in the Bible as God's word. I try living as close to that belief as possible.

The question is as follows..........

What specifically do you object to regarding halloween as related to you and your family?

The dressing up?

The date?

The costumes?

If you are not involved in any ceremonial/devil worshipping aspect of the holiday

why is it so abhorrent to you?

You can't live some one else's life for them, but you can live your own.

I just don't understand what you see wrong with having a

child dress up ( in a proper costume) maybe as a sheperd and

go as we do to the church parking lot fellowship with other

Christians and get candy. I'm not down playing the evilness

of those that participate in halloween as worshipping the dead.

For those that don't do that, it is just a time for the kids to have fun.

I doubt kids and most adults even know that it started as a

holiday worshipping and praying for the dead. Anyway thanks

for a lively discussion and do what makes you comfortable

regarding halloween.

I respect your desire to stop. And that's ok. It's up to each of us to do what we feel is right. But I will answer your last question...

I do have to say this first. I was not even remotely raised in a Christian house. I was actually raised with the very people the Lord would tell us to kill. My mom and sister do tarot readings, speak to spirit guides, give psychic readings, spiritual healing, etc. So, there was no Christian God allowed in my home as a kid, instead He was a spiritual 'energy'. We were taught to live for ourselves, do what pleases us, and don't get caught up in religious mumbo-jumbo.

I find Halloween abhorant because it is my belief that people who claim Christ and celebrate it, even at church, is making the Lord sad and is going against His will. I don't like to think of my Savior as sad. That's just me.

I don't like the idea of my children doing the very pagan things that started the celebration in the first place. Even though it 'seems' we are not involved in the worshipping aspect, we really are. The dressing up and trick-or-treating is part of the original pagan ceremony, so therefore, if we do those things, we are still celebrating it in a pagan way.

I can't live other's lives, and don't want to seem like I am trying. All of my neighbors and friends celebrate Halloween, and I wish them fun at it. I also laugh at the antics I hear about the night too. They know my position on it, but they also know I can't make them agree with me, and they also they feel comfortable talking to me about it.

Just as I would never force someone to come to God, I cannot force someone to see things from my perspective either. Sometimes when I write things, I tend to sound arrogant and like I am pushing my beliefs. I don't mean to do that in any way shape or form. I just try to write out what it is that I am thinking. It's much different in person! And I do not know all of the answers, and I know that I could be very wrong!

We all have to do what God puts on our hearts. This is one thing He has put on mine and my husband's. If that time comes for you, GREAT! If not, GREAT! We are all learning, will continue to learn, and will come to understand all things when the time comes. In the meantime, I look forward to more postings from you!!! Be blessed!
