They charged the babysitter with her death? That's part of a growing problem in this country: it always has to be somebody's fault. No one can accept any longer that sometimes accidents happen and it's no one's fault...we all need someone to blame. I'm sure the parents were devastated and angry, but the D A should have had a clearer view.

Always remove your child from their car seat after they are out of the cars... that's something i always knew.. car seats are to keep a child safe inside the car, they are not swing, not napper, not a bed.

Mother warns about the danger of car seats after her one-year-old daughter suffocated to death while napping in one that the babysitter left on the living room floor

Mother warns about the dangers of sleeping in car seats following death of daughter, 17

Mia Smith, 17 months (right), was put to nap in a car seat by her babysitter in June 2015. But, after she didn't wake up, she was rushed to the hospital where she died two days later. The cause of her death was ruled to be positional asphyxia, which is when a person cannot get enough air to breathe because of the way his or her body is positioned. Babysitter Valerie Wackerly (inset) was charged with involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to three years' probation and to pay restitution to the family. Mia's mother, Lisa, said she now wants to educate people on the dangers of napping in car seats when it is not inside a vehicle.
