Denver dad, 46, is the 13th American to die in Dominican Republic this year after he was taken off a plane screaming in pain before suffering kidney failure as tourism drops by 74%

Denver dad is the 13th American tourist to die in Dominican Republic

Khalid Adkins, who had been vacationing with his daughter, was expected to fly back to the U.S. on Sunday but suffered kidney failure before take-off and had to be rushed to a hospital, where he died on Wednesday. The death is another devastating blow for the country's crumbing reputation as a tourist paradise, after Delta Air Lines announced it would allow passengers to re-book or cancel their flights to the Dominican Republic without charge. Citing 'recent events in Punta Cana', a post to the company's advisories page confirmed that all flights to, from, and through Punta Cana International Airport will be covered by the waiver. Amid a spate of unexplained illnesses on the island, 13 Americans have now lost their lives while visiting the Dominican Republic. They are Adkins (picture main left) and (from top left to right) Miranda Schaup-Werner, 41; Joseph Allen, 55; Susan Simoneaux, 59; Donette Edge Cannon, 38; Vittorio Caruso, 56; Cynthia Day, 49; Jerry Curran, 78; Leyla Cox, 53; David Harrison, 45; Nathaniel Holmes, 63; Robert Bell Wallace, 67; Yvette Monique Sport, 51.

New Jersey man, 55, becomes the EIGHTH tourist to die in mysterious circumstances in the Dominican Republic as group of Oklahoma seniors also fall sick

New Jersey holidaymaker is the EIGHTH tourist to die in Dominican Republic

An eighth American tourist has died in mysterious circumstances while vacationing in the Dominican Republic. The State Department confirmed that Joseph Allen, 55, (pictured left) of Avenel, New Jersey, was found dead in his hotel room at the Terra Linda hotel in Sosua (top right). His sister Jamie Reed confirmed that he died on the morning of June 13 during a trip to celebrate a friend's birthday. He was not staying at the same resort where many of the other Americans have died. Allen's death comes as more American tourists tell how they have fallen violently ill while vacationing in the sun-soaked paradise. An Oklahoma teens' senior trip to the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Punta Cana (bottom right), where at least two Americans have died saw at least five members of the 40-strong group from Deer Creek High School (pictured on the beach center) get sick after flying out there on June 8. Liz McLaughlin said that her daughter, Libby, was among those to fall ill after eating at a Japanese restaurant at the all-inclusive resort last Tuesday. A son has now also come forward to question whether his dad's death a year ago may be related to the recent spate of American tourist deaths. Mark Hurlbut Sr., died on June 15, 2018, in Punta Cana. A coroner there listed his death as a heart attack. Mark Hurlbut Jr. said his father and his wife felt sick the night before he died. 'She told me that as she found him that he had something green coming from his mouth,' he said.
