WellHouse Majority Leader Steny Hoyer announced Wednesday that the House will vote next week on expanding the State Children’s Health Insurance Program, which will be funded by an increased excise tax on cigarettes and cigars.

The legislation would impose a 156 percent tax increase on smokers, raising the 39-cents per pack federal cigarette tax to one dollar.

Well, it is not unexpected. This is on top of any increase from Virginia:

I wonder if anyone has fought their property tax bill since everyone's property values have plunged? Anyone have any info on people fighting tax values?

I do not even know how to start on this subject.. Well I Live in NORTH CAROLINA one of the highest taxed states in the union.. And yes we just got our letters in 5-6 years I will be paying just as much in taxes as my house payment is now not including the 20% jump, I am soon going to have to be paying in insurance.. I cannot think of anything in this state that is not taxed.. Can you believe that they were considering putting in play a odometer tax because DOT revenue is down.. Tax me on my mileage on the road CRAZY!!!!!!!!

I am moving to Florida from Virginia because someone on a fixed income cannot affors to live anymore in this state. My daughter lives down there and we have been going down there for the past five years and that is where we will end up moving to. The problem is selling a house right now. We spend several months at a time in Fl. and the rest here. We plan on driving down for Christmas this year to be with the family.

Just got my home assessment yesterday. My house that has been for sale for six months now has been assessed at $30,000 more than I am trying to sell it for - unsuccessfully. I am going to call the city today and see what runaround they give me. I will tell them that they can buy my house for $25,000 less than they say it's worth.

Bob; you have hit the nail on the head. Only time will tell.

GBB: I would like to agree with you on what you have stated, but this is not what God would have us do. We were once a blessed nation. We MUST turn our ways back to God. We can start doing this first in the homes. Our children and grandchildren (in my case) don't even know who God is. They don't know what the 10 commandments are. People who put the Bible down, have never read it, have not ask God for understanding about it, or just plain want to ignore it because it cramps their lifestyle.

God tells us in his word he will not be mocked and we WILL reap what we sow. (Galatians 6:7). He also tells us in many place in the Bible what to look for during the end times.

Thanks for your time and have a Blessed Day.

One of the secrets that I don't think that the democrats plan on telling their faithful followers is that not only do they intend to raise taxes on at least 50% of all Americans, 100% of Americans will face in the next 4 years the highest taxes that they will have EVER paid, when you count these factors:

1) Local Taxes
2) State Taxes
3) New Fines!
4) New EPA regulations
5) Bailout to save worker's pay
7) A new health care system.

This is not "scare you" tactics. This is the truth, but unfortunately that class warfare game employed by the democrats worked to give them total control of taxes. Not since Jimmy Carter did they have this, and much more radical communist, socialist are in control then under Jimmy Carter.

The single largest "tax" that everyone will feel is inflation. Inflation very rarely happens in a recession under Republicans (not counting Bush- who was no real Republican). Even under Bush, the "stagflation" never was as bad as under Jimmy Carter. For those of us who lived and worked under the Carter years understand the cost of his governance. The misery index was something like 26%. Inflation plus interest rate plus unemployment.

We are going to see a world crisis in the middle east that will drive oil through the roof and Obama's energy policy is a total joke. I think we may see $300 oil by 2010 if a war breaks out in the middle east between Israel and her neighbors.

War in the middle east will also cause other wars, Russia back into eastern Europe, China into Taiwan and North Korea into South Korea. These events will trigger a panic in Europe and Japan like we haven't seen. Japan and Germany will adopt the A-Bomb and increase their military to pre WWII levels. America's influence will continue to drop.

The rush of 50 million Mexicans will occur in the next 4 years after amnesty is adopted and families are allowed to join their new American relatives. This will add at least 12-15 million democratic votes for 2012 ensuring another democratic victory.

As more and more Americans change jobs from $50.00 and hour auto workers, to UNIONIZED $10.00 hamburger flippers (with FREE health care) and $9.00 Big Macs and $4.00 fries, our nation will see itself even with the average third world nation.

Europe will continue to dominate, and the Arabs will continue to grow as the threat of all mankind.

That, is our future. The time frame is the only thing I don't understand. That means I am not sure if this will happen in 4 years or 40 years. I am beginning to think earlier rather than later.

Here is a prophecy for everyone to consider: It is highly edited for dramatic license, but it is word for word! NLT translation to make it easy to understand!

America, once so full of people, is now deserted. She who was once great among the nations now sits alone like a widow. Once the queen of all the earth, she is now a slave.

She sobs through the night; tears stream down her cheeks. Among all her lovers, there is no one left to comfort her. All her friends have betrayed her and become her enemies.

She has been led away into captivity, oppressed with cruel slavery. We live among foreign nations and has no place of rest. Her enemies have chased her down, and she has nowhere to turn.

Her oppressors have become her masters, and her enemies prosper, for the Lord has punished J her many sins. Her children have been captured and taken away to distant lands.

All the majesty has been stripped away. Her princes are like starving deer searching for pasture. They are too weak to run from the pursuing enemy.

She defiled herself with immorality and gave no thought to her future. Now she lies in the gutter with no one to lift her out. “Lord, see my misery,” she cries. “The enemy has triumphed.”

The enemy has plundered her completely, taking every precious thing she owns.  Her people groan as they search for bread. They have sold their treasures for food to stay alive. “O Lord, look,” she mourns, “and see how I am despised.

“For all these things I weep; tears flow down my cheeks. No one is here to comfort me; any who might encourage me are far away. My children have no future, for the enemy has conquered us.”

“Lord, see my anguish! My heart is broken and my soul despairs, for I have rebelled against you. In the streets the sword kills, and at home there is only death.

“Others heard my groans, but no one turned to comfort me. When my enemies heard about my troubles, they were happy to see what you had done. Oh, bring the day you promised, when they will suffer as I have suffered.

Without mercy the Lord has destroyed every home in Israel. All the strength of Israel vanishes beneath his fierce anger. The Lord has withdrawn his protection as the enemy attacks. He consumes the whole land of Israel like a raging fire.

He bends his bow against his people, as though he were their enemy. His strength is used against them to kill their finest youth. His fury is poured out.
Yes, the Lord has vanquished Israel like an enemy. He has destroyed her palaces and demolished her fortresses.

I have cried until the tears no longer come; my heart is broken. My spirit is poured out in agony as I see the desperate plight of my people. Little children and tiny babies are fainting and dying in the streets. They cry out to their mothers, “We need food and drink!” Their lives ebb away in the streets like the life of a warrior wounded in battle. They gasp for life as they collapse in their mothers’ arms.

Your prophets have said so many foolish things, false to the core. They did not save you from exile by pointing out your sins. Instead, they painted false pictures, filling you with false hope. All who pass by jeer at you. They scoff and insult you, saying, “Is this the city called ‘Most Beautiful in All the World’ and ‘Joy of All the Earth’?”

All your enemies mock you. They scoff and snarl and say, “We have destroyed her at last! We have long waited for this day, and it is finally here!”

But it is the Lord who did just as he planned. He has fulfilled the promises of disaster he made long ago.

“You have invited terrors from all around, as though you were calling them to a day of feasting. In the day of the Lord’s anger, no one has escaped or survived. The enemy has killed all the children whom I carried and raised.”

I am the one who has seen the afflictions that come from the rod of the Lord’s anger.  He has led me into darkness, shutting out all light.  He has turned his hand against me again and again, all day long. He has made my skin and flesh grow old. He has broken my bones.  He has besieged and surrounded me with anguish and distress. He has buried me in a dark place, like those long dead. He has walled me in, and I cannot escape. He has bound me in heavy chains.  And though I cry and shout, he has shut out my prayers. He has blocked my way with a high stone wall; he has made my road crooked.

He has hidden like a bear or a lion, waiting to attack me. He has dragged me off the path and torn me in pieces, leaving me helpless and devastated. 1He has drawn his bow and made me the target for his arrows.

The Lord is good to those who depend on him, to those who search for him.  So it is good to wait quietly for salvation from the Lord.  And it is good for people to submit at an early age to the yoke of his discipline: Let them sit alone in silence beneath the Lord’s demands. Let them lie face down in the dust, for there may be hope at last. Let them turn the other cheek to those who strike them and accept the insults of their enemies. For no one is abandoned by the Lord forever.  Though he brings grief, he also shows compassion because of the greatness of his unfailing love. For he does not enjoy hurting people or causing them sorrow.

Lord, you are my lawyer! Plead my case! For you have redeemed my life. You have seen the wrong they have done to me, Lord. Be my judge, and prove me right.  You have seen the vengeful plots my enemies have laid against me.Lord, you have heard the vile names they call me. You know all about the plans they have made. My enemies whisper and mutter as they plot against me all day long. Look at them! Whether they sit or stand, I am the object of their mocking songs.

Pay them back, Lord, for all the evil they have done.  Give them hard and stubborn hearts, and then let your curse fall on them! Chase them down in your anger, destroying them beneath the Lord’s heavens.

How the gold has lost its luster! Even the finest gold has become dull. The sacred gemstones lie scattered in the streets!

See how the precious children  worth their weight in fine gold, are now treated like pots of clay made by a common potter.

The people who once ate the richest foods now beg in the streets for anything they can get. Those who once wore the finest clothes now search the garbage dumps for food.

The guilt[b] of my people is greater than that of Sodom, where utter disaster struck in a moment and no hand offered help. Our princes once glowed with health— brighter than snow, whiter than milk. Their faces were as ruddy as rubies, their appearance like fine jewels. But now their faces are blacker than soot. No one recognizes them in the streets. Their skin sticks to their bones; it is as dry and hard as wood.

Tenderhearted women have cooked their own children. They have eaten them to survive the siege.

Yet it happened because of the sins of her prophets and the sins of her priests, who defiled the city by shedding innocent blood. They wandered blindly through the streets, so defiled by blood that no one dared touch them. “Get away!” the people shouted at them. “You’re defiled! Don’t touch us!” So they fled to distant lands and wandered among foreign nations, but none would let them stay.

The Lord himself has scattered them, and he no longer helps them. People show no respect for the priests and no longer honor the leaders. We looked in vain for our allies to come and save us, but we were looking to nations that could not help us. We couldn’t go into the streets without danger to our lives. Our end was near; our days were numbered. We were doomed!

Slaves have now become our masters; there is no one left to rescue us.  We hunt for food at the risk of our lives, for violence rules the countryside. The famine has blackened our skin as though baked in an oven. Our enemies rape the women and the young girls in all the towns.
But Lord, you remain the same forever! Your throne continues from generation to generation.  Why do you continue to forget us? Why have you abandoned us for so long? Restore us, O Lord, and bring us back to you again! Give us back the joys we once had! Or have you utterly rejected us? Are you angry with us still?

That my friends is our fate if we don't WAKE UP and call on God. I know this because God says so. Listen to God.

Many states and tows are already raising taxes. NYC and Callyfornia as the terminator would say are just a few. Austin Texas is yet another place. I found this on the web.

Cities Keep Raising Taxes

By Anne Marie Maloney, Guest Columnist

The nation's cities raised taxes by an average of $2.16 per person in fiscal year 1997, according to a survey by the National League of Cities. The net changes in 1997 tax rates (resulting from deliberate policy decisions rather than natural increases) generated approximately $81.4 million in increased revenue for municipalities.

Of the cities that raised their income tax rates, most were in the Northeast. Four percent of Northeastern cities, where seven in 10 said they expected to have more problems meeting their financial needs this year than in 1996, raised income taxes, compared to less than 1% elsewhere.

Northeastern cities also raised property taxes more often than their Southern or Western counterparts. But Southern cities were the most likely to raise sales taxes (6.1% raised them), followed by the Midwest at 4.2%.

While regional influences strongly affected municipal tax trends, the city's size was also significant. Smaller cities tended to raise sales taxes, while more of the larger cities used what the study called "innovative revenue raisers," such as telecommunications leases, billing for ambulance calls, and idle funds invested in certificates of deposits.

There is also an apparent trend among cities away from raising rates other than property tax rates, according to the report. Only 6% of the cities raised the rates of "other taxes" this year, compared to 21% that raised them in 1991.

The survey covered 338 cities, including 30 of the 51 largest cities in the United States, but it did not include Chicago, the District of Columbia, San Francisco, New York, and Los Angeles.
